The condition of a Palestinian journalist on a hunger strike in an Israeli jail is deteriorating, the man’s wife and a Palestinian official said Monday.

The military said the alleged stabber had a knife in his hand when he approached a soldier securing a junction in the West Bank and tried to attack him.
“Young man killed after being shot in the chest by (Israeli) forces in Beit Jala”, a ministry statement said, referring to a town south of Jerusalem in the West Bank.
Four Israelis, including a soldier and a prison officer, were charged on Tuesday with aggravated assault in connection with the death of an Eritrean national, who was shot and beaten after being mistaken for a gunman during an attack in the southern Israeli city of Beersheba on October 18.
The journalist, Mohammed al-Qeq, 33, is on the 48th day of a hunger strike to protest his six-month incarceration without trial or charge, under what is called administrative detention.
In a separate incident, Palestinian officials said a 21-year-old Palestinian was shot dead after hurling stones at Israeli forces.
An Israeli road cuts into the Palestinian city of Beit Jala, site of the most recent Israeli raids.
Palestinians have perpetrated almost daily stabbing, shooting and car-ramming attacks on Israelis since September, a phenomenon that has won much praise and encouragement in Palestinian social media posts. They say 25 Israelis have also been killed since the breakout of violence. Rights groups said on Monday that at least 14 Palestinians received the so-called administrative sentences and dozens more saw similar sentences renewed.

Israel has been accusing the Palestinian Authority of “inciting” the violence, while the Palestinians say it is the result of 49 years of Israeli control of their lands.
