Celtic have confirmed the signing of Cristian Gamboa from West Brom in a deal worth approximately £1million.

As revealed by Sportsmail at the weekend, the Scottish side turned their attention towards the 26-year-old after growing frustrated over a deal for Liverpool’s Andre Wisdom.

Having won 47 caps for his country, Costa Rica, Gamboa has experience of playing in countries such as Denmark and Norway throughout his club career.

The Celtic boss chose to step up his search for defensive cover after watching former Manchester United youngster Janko struggle badly during their nerve- racking play-off clash with Hapoel Be’er Sheva.

The full-back becomes Celtic’s fifth signing of the summer window following the additions of Moussa Dembele, Kolo Toure, Scott Sinclair and Dorus De Vries.

Gamboa will be unveiled at a press conference later on Tuesday afternoon.

Speaking in Glasgow, Gamboa told Sky Sports: “I can not say anything now, so we wait and see”.

‘I hope (by) the end of the day we have something’.

The right-back arrived in Glasgow for his medical yesterday after struggling to make an impact at the Premier League club in the last two seasons.
