The 24-year-old nearly capped an impressive performance with a dream debut goal.
The Magpies were undone shortly after the restart through Payet’s second of the match, with Moses doing the groundwork by racing clear of the visiting defenders and rifling against the post before the Frenchman buried the rebound.
The 28-year-old put in a man-of-the-match display as he scored both the Hammers’ goals in a comfortable 2-0 victory over Newcastle, who slumped to the bottom of the table on goals scored on Monday night. For the Chelsea loanee, it was a case of a job very well done.
The French global has settled well to the Premier League, scoring both goals in this game. “And you can see the fans do as well”.
“We shot ourselves in the foot”. I told the chairman he was my first choice and then in five days it was done. Payet and Sakho were excellent and Lanzini as well.
The 23-year-old Nigeria global agreed a new four-year contract at Stamford Bridge before joining Slaven Bilic’s side on a temporary basis with regular game time still beyond him at the Blues. “It was a really good night”, Bilic said.
The club are moving forward and into a new stadium.
“We are very confident, but to be fair they are playing the best football in the country and they have no weaknesses”, Bilic said on Sky Sports.
And the Nigerian tweeted this morning his desire to carry the squad’s good mood into West Ham’s next clash, against league leaders Manchester City.
“There are not many times that you do lose a game at home and the supporters appreciate the work, commitment and spirit that the players have shown”.
“Hopefully we’ll get at least a draw but I believe in the quality of the players we’ve got”.

“It’ll be tough, City have been the best team so far, playing there is always hard anyway”. These sorts of nights and games are painful to go through, but sometimes you have to go through them to learn about individuals and your team.
