The Ghana global won the BBC African Player of the Year in 2011 and signs a four-year deal to become West Ham’s record signing.

Ayew came close to joining West Ham last summer, before eventually opting to move to Swansea, where he scored 12 goals in an impressive debut season in England’s top tier. “It’s only a matter of paperwork and then we will have two new players at West Ham”.

Although the club did not disclose the transfer fee when confirming Masuaku’s arrival, Jack Sullivan, son of co-chairman David Sullivan, posted on Twitter that they had parted with £6million for the defender.

Ayew signed a contract recently with uniBank as their new brand ambassador before returning to Swansea City for the pre-season.

Masuaku becomes West Ham’s eighth signing of the summer following the additions of Sofiane Feghouli, Toni Martinez, Harvard Nordveit, Domingos Quina, Ashley Fletcher, Gokhan Tore and the permanent arrival of Manuel Lanzini.

“We are trying to get quality players but we have marquee players”.

Andre Ayew has also played with Payet at Marseilles and will be looking to reignite a partnership that was extremely potent in Ligue 1 during their time together there.

“I’m very happy he has confidence in me and I want to give it back to him”, Ayew added.

Paulo Dybala became the first visiting player to score at the Olympic Stadium when the Argentina global scored from a Mario Mandzukic knockdown to his strike partner with roles reversed soon after as Dybala set up Mandzukic who was left with a tap in for the second.
