West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic believes that Bastian Schweinsteiger should have been sent off for an elbow on Winston Reid.
Reid was in no doubt what action the referee should have taken, saying: “It was a red card”. He knows what he’s done – he’s elbowed me in the face. “So far we have not seen the best of Schweinsteiger”.
The official spoke to both players after a coming together in the second half, but Hammers boss Slaven Bilić says he did not see the episode which could activate a clause in The FA’s retrospective punishment rules.
“Sometimes, it’s hard to create and find space but, of course, we should create more chances and do more”.
“We are disappointed but these things happen”. He just didn’t see it. I saw it from the video and it was a red, a big time red.
“I think he is able to play a better game”, Van Gaal said according to Bild. It was a red, a big-time red.
One could understand Reid’s frustration as West Ham came close of pulling off a rare victory at the home of the Premier League giants.
Van Gaal believes the veteran midfielder has at least four more goals in him this season.
“The dressing room is really good – very friendly, you can feel also the team spirit”.

The match marked the end of Leicester striker Jamie Vardy’s record 11-game scoring streak, but Foxes team-mate Riyad Mahrez notched a career first hat-trick.
