West Ham, Middlesbrough earn first win in EPL

Antonio scored the first Premier goal at the London Stadium on Sunday to secure a 1-0 win over Bournemouth and collect the Hammers’ first three points of the campaign. “It’s a bit frustrating”, Bilic said.

“If you are talking about character and team spirit nobody can say we didn’t deserve it”.

West Ham have moved into the arena, now known as the London Stadium, after leaving Upton Park and Antonio’s late goal made their first domestic fixture at the ground one to remember.

Carroll is out for four to six weeks with a knee injury but Bilic hopes to have Payet and fellow midfielder Manuel Lanzini available within the next week.

Bilic could face competition from his ex club Besiktas who are now in talks with City over the loan transfer of Bony a source close to the Istanbul giants told Emre Sarigul.

Besiktas would be able to offer Bony guaranteed Champions League football this season if he were to make the move and the Eagles want the striker on a loan deal.

But he said: “The atmosphere is brilliant!”

West Ham United have admitted that anywhere between three and 40,000 fans may still be within the London Stadium, 24 hours after the Hammers’ game with Bournemouth concluded.

“But I felt the fans, it was proper loud”.

For all West Ham’s effort, they didn’t look like breaking through until Bournemouth midfielder Harry Arter was sent off for a second booking in the 77th minute after chopping down Cheikhou Kouyate. “As long as we are winning and competing and they are going home happy, then they are going to pack this stadium”.

They procured the only chance of note in the first half against Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth, with visiting goalkeeper Artur Boruc obliged to parry at his near post from Enner Valencia.

Sunderland, and its new manager David Moyes, is also looking for its first point after a 2-1 loss to northeast rival Middlesbrough in the other game Sunday.

“We know the rules, dissent will be a yellow card and that’s the one that burns with us”, he said. We need to learn quickly.
