West Ham Put Dent In Tottenham’s Title Hopes

Michail Antonio’s seventh-minute header from Dimitry Payet’s corner handed the Hammers the points in the final meeting between the London rivals at the Boleyn Ground.

Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris says it’s too early to talk of winning the title.

Spurs rediscovered some self-belief and had the better of the second half, and after Ben Davies and Mason sent wayward shots over the bar, Alli emerged to inject more vigour.

It was billed as the day that Tottenham Hotspur could go top of the league at this stage in a season for the first time since 1964 and charge towards their first top-flight title in 55 years.

It was Tottenham’s first away defeat since the opening weekend of the season and their first league setback since mid-January when they lost at home to leaders Leicester City.

“But to outplay them and win against them without being lucky requires a great performance, and we were simply magnificent and I congratulate the players. We made some mistakes and the team didn’t feel free to play the way they play”, stated Pochettino.

“As a high profile football club with a global fan base of over 400m, we have the unique ability to engage and inspire people around supporting good causes like Noah’s Ark”.

West Ham, who are now unbeaten in their last five games in all competitions, currently find themselves sixth in the Premier League table with 46 points from 28 games. Not having a second striker to sub on for Kane really hurt, and was evident last match as he shouldn’t of played the whole 90 minutes.

Mauricio Pochettino is expected to once again ring the changes for Wednesday’s Premier League clash against West Ham as Tottenham continue to navigate a busy fixture list. “The first half was poor, we never found solutions to play like we normally play”, conceded Pochettino. “We were facing a team that on paper is one of the best teams in England”.

“We are going to approach the remainder of the season very confidently”.

Antonio will certainly miss the place – all six of his goals for West Ham this season have come at home.

“The worrying thing for Spurs is that Pochettino’s Southampton side tended to tail off at the end of it, and I’m not sure if that was because of the way he demanded so much from his players”.
