It was the first Premier League game to be played at the Hammers new stadium, but the event was marred by the violence that ensued in an isolated incident which followed the final whistle.

Michail Antonio’s late header sealed victory for West Ham as it marked its first Premier League game at London Stadium with a 1-0 win over 10-man Bournemouth.

West Ham then needed a reaction save from goalkeeper Adrian followed by a clearance from near the goal-line to preserve their first league win at the team’s new home.

West Ham United now turn their attention to the UEFA Europa League, play-off round, second leg, when they face Astra Giurgiu on Thursday August 25 at the London Stadium (7:45pm).

So it is onward for West Ham in their new stadium.

In the event, there was more goal-mouth action in the last 10 minutes than the rest of the match, with Bournemouth nearly equalising seven minutes later as Joshua King saw his point-blank effort saved by Adrian.

There were nerves for West Ham also.

“We are without a few players, some of them are going to be out long term, some of them are going to be back for the next game”, he told Sky Sports pre-match, before addressing Carroll’s situation after reports on Sunday that the England global was facing up to six weeks on the sidelines with a knee injury.

He told Sky Sports: “The week we’ve had after Monday night, away to Chelsea and losing late on, and then going all the way to Romania and getting back in the early hours of Friday, to come and win at home is a great feeling”.

West Ham manager Slaven Bilic says it is a “big frustration” to lose forward Andy Carroll to a knee injury. I felt we were pushing to get the victor.

The Twitter user, who goes only by the name of Paul on the social media website, wrote: “Block 214 row 73 no seats!”

“There is no point in moaning, we know the situation”.

“So if we are talking about creation from midfield, we will be more than all right with them, because nobody has got five players like them”.

The full-back concluded: “It is a great stadium, the pitch, the atmosphere, it really is special and we are really excited to be playing in this stadium”.
