Australia batted for the first four sessions of the match and lost only four wickets; West Indies batted less than four sessions and lost all their wickets, for both innings, crushed by an innings and 212 runs before tea on the third afternoon.

Johannesburg, Dec.13: West Indies skipper Jason Holder believes that their humiliating first Test defeat against Australia was not a step backwards for his team and insisted that they have competed well in the past as well.

IT took just one innings for James Pattinson to tear down 12 months of mollycoddling from Cricket Australia and revert to tearing into opposition batsmen the only way he knows how.

Only opener Kraigg Brathwaite with a counter-attacking 94 showed any resistance, and was one of only three players to reach double figures.

“I just ran in and wanted to bowl fast like I did when I first came on the scene”, Pattinson, who took five-wicket hauls in his first two tests in 2011, told reporters in Hobart on Sunday.

Fazeer Mohammed has been broadcasting on West Indies cricket for 23 years, and is in Australia witnessing yet another dispiriting chapter in their history.

West Indies were heavily criticised for their slow over rate in Hobart as they were embarrassed to start the three-Test series.

After West Indies were forced to follow-on, however, he ditched the action created to protect him from the back injuries that have blighted his 14-test career and took 5-27 in eight overs.

The tourists were earlier dismissed for 223 with Hazlewood missing a hat-trick after dismissing Roach and Taylor with successive balls to finish with four for 45.

“Yeah, I would, but the captain might not want that”. If he is unable to gain full fitness, he is quite certain about making a comeback in the Tests next year. “I can’t really focus on anything else at this point in time, we’ve brought a squad down here to play cricket and that’s exactly what I’m going to do”. “The partnership between Voges and Shaun Marsh set us up well and the bowlers did a terrific job”.

Gayle recently underwent a back surgery but the 36-year-old however expects he’ll be fit enough to play every Big Bash League game for the Melbourne Renegades this season.

“Therefore, we at the administrative level must find ways and means of dealing with the problem of players choosing to play for club rather than country”.

West Indies captain Jason Holder said the big loss wasn’t unfamiliar to him or a team hit by player strikes, pay disputes, coach suspensions and a decision by numerous top players to choose lucrative global Twenty20 league contracts over test duty.
