West monsoons likely to hit Kerala in the second week of June
“In view of strengthening of cross equatorial flows and deepening of westerlies over South Arabian Sea and development of a feeble offshore trough along Karnataka-Kerala coast, the onset of monsoon over Kerala is very likely by June 9 (Thursday)”, the Met said.

Earlier, the forecast was that the monsoon rain will arrive on June 7, which usually happens around June 1.
Panaji: With conditions being favourable for onset of the southwest monsoon over Kerala during next two to three days, pre-monsoon showers, though not so heavy, have been witnessed in many places in Goa. Moreover, the prediction of the weather department bears significance taking into account the fact that, over last 24 hours several parts of Tamil Nadu has been received a good amount of shower.
In coastal Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, there is probability for heavy to very heavy rains followed by lightning and Thunder in the next 48 hours.
Once the monsoon marks its onset over Kerala, the IMD expects it to rapidly advance over the rest of the country. “This year, overall 113 percent above normal rains can be expected in the peninsular region in the South and Central India says an IMD press release”.

It is said that the El Nino conditions have turned “neutral to negative” and La Nina conditions are likely to develop in the second half of the monsoon.
