West Nile Virus Prompts Mosquito Spraying In Larimer County

The service tests for mosquitoes carrying West Nile virus or Eastern Equine Encephalitis virus. However, it has been classified as a low risk of the virus by the state Department of Environmental Protection.

These two cases are the first reported in Kern County in 2015. Weather permitting; the areas listed below are scheduled for mosquito control spraying between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. Saturday August 15 and Sunday August 16 each night.

Two people are dead after authorities say their cars collided almost head-on in central Florida. The report comes as tests show a spike in positive testing in the state’s mosquito population.

Johnson said the positive sample was found, in part, because the district was actively collecting so many samples. The cases are in Camden and Burlington Counties. Most people that get sick have mild, flu-like symptoms, lasting for three to six days – such as fever, headache and body aches. He said a statewide mosquito surveillance program requires the department to collect weekly samples at nine locations around the county each week.

There is no vaccine and no specific treatment for the infection, so it’s important to catch it early and get a correct diagnosis, so that complications can be dealt with promptly if they arise.
