WestJet says supply and demand behind cuts
The Edmonton connector flights end Saturday, March 5, as part of a reduction of service to other centres served by the regional airline, including Abbotsford, Grand Prairie and Calgary.

Starting in the summer, there will be fewer five flights out of Edmonton.
“This was certainly a tough decision for us”, said Richard Bartram, vice-president of communications at WestJet.
Ten times daily service between Edmonton and Calgary will remain, the airline said in a release.
In an email, Westjet spokesperson Lauren Stewart said “with the downturn in the economy, we are seeing less demand for travel to and from energy markets into areas across Canada”. Bartrem said customers can still get between those destinations by changing planes elsewhere. “When the energy markets were in a period of high demand, we were responding to that demand by bringing in an increased number of flights”. “We appreciate and recognize that this is unfortunate news for the citizens of Kamloops”.

There will also be additional service linking Vancouver to Los Angeles, Honolulu, and Maui. On the plus side, they will start flights to Nashville from Toronto.
