DISGRACED NRL player Matthew Lodge was found cowering in the bedroom closet of the New York apartment he allegedly barged into after stalking frightened women into the home, punching the man who lived there and then pegging a bottle of wine at police.

Matthew Lodge had been on holiday in New York when he was arrested.

Tigers player Matthew Lodge was arrested in New York after allegedly following two women into an apartment.

“Matthew has a lot of problems”.

“My husband’s on a plane to New York”.

At the time, the Wests Tigers said Lodge had been stood down pending an outcome.

It was about 10pm that the women were frantically buzzing apartments on West End Avenue to be let in so they could escape Lodge.

Lodge, 20, who has had brushes with NSW authorities for alleged domestic violence, was arrested at 4.52am on Friday at an apartment block on Manhattan’s upper-west side.

Wests Tigers chief executive Justin Pascoe said in a statement that the club would not tolerate Lodge’s behaviour.

Police allege he threatened the woman, telling them “this is the night you die” before the man raced to their aid.

Speaking this morning, Lodge’s mother said she was concerned for his welfare.

“The women were let into the building by a resident of the building”, the police spokesman said.

It is the criminal mischief charge, a felony, that could put him in jail for a maximum four years.

Emergency services were called and Lodge was placed under arrest.

The once-promising player has had a history of similar incidents, and was stood down by the Tigers in August after being charged with common assault, malicious damage, stalking an intimidation, and being served with a domestic violence order.
