What Is the Bugatti Chiron’s Actual Top Speed?

Without further ado, the W16 8.0-liter engine with four turbochargers produces 1,500 PS (1,103 kW / 1,479 hp) at 6,700 rpm and 1,181 lb-ft (1,600 Nm) between 2,000 – 6,000 rpm.

One of 2016’s most eagerly anticipated cars is finally here: the Bugatti Chiron has been unveiled at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. No, that’s the speed Bugatti chose to electronically limit the Chiron to.

The trickery is achieved by only two of the turbos providing boost until 3,800 rpm, after which all four of them take over to keep the maximum torque figures available approximately 70 percent across the powerplant’s entire operating range (2,000 rpm to 6,000 rpm). Despite the massive weight, it can accelerate from a standstill to a 100 kmph in less than 2.5 seconds and reaches 200 kmph in less than 6.5 seconds. Talking to Bugatti CEO Wolfgang Durheimer, the Top Speed mode is certainly possible but only under very strict and monitored conditions.

With the electronic limiter turned off, you have to wonder just how much faster the Chiron can go.

A Bugatti spokeswoman declined to provide financial details but said the Chiron would be profitable even when including the upfront development costs of the project.

The Chiron looks stunning and is inspired by Bugatti’s from yesteryear. The aerodynamic efficiency of the vehicle has gone up when compared to its predecessor.

The heart of the cockpit is the steering wheel with a large centrally located analogue speedometer flanked by two digital displays. The right one displays the infotainment menu, rear view camera and other convenient elements.

The new auto is named after Louis Chiron, a race driver during the brand’s heyday in the 1920s and 1930s.

Interiors are unqualified luxury: What looks like leather is leather, what looks like carbon and steel is carbon and steel.

This new 2017 Bugatti Chiron from Volkswagen has diamonds in its speakers, according to The Verge. Production will be around 50 pieces a year to begin with but Mr. Durheimer hopes to increase production to 60-65 Chirons a year over time. Bugatti already received pre-orders for 30% of the 500 models.
