Just days before Pennsylvania’s 12-year statute of limitations for bringing charges would have run out, authorities have finally pounced on Bill Cosby, charging him over the alleged drugging and sexual assault of a woman 12 years ago.
Prosecutions just barely missed a statute of limitations deadline to charge the former Jello spokesman.
Cosby was released on $1 million bail before 3 p.m. and driven home shortly afterward, without offering any comment.
Constand’s lawyer asks Cosby: “When you got the quaaludes, was it in your mind that you were going to use these quaaludes for young women that you wanted to have sex with?” “Then my next memory is feeling drugged and him having sex with me”, said Serignese. She settled a civil case against Cosby for an undisclosed sum in 2006. The terms were not disclosed.
Attorneys for Constand issued a statement thanking the district attorney and the police for their action.
While the similarity of the alleged crime in Pennsylvania can not be used to prove the alleged crime in Los Angeles, it may show a convincing pattern, said Alex Yufik, an adjunct psychology professor at USC and a criminal defense attorney.
Cosby is expected to be arraigned Wednesday afternoon on a sexual assault charge. The actor’s attorneys have considered the criminal case against him as totally unjustified.
“Cosby gave her a muffin, walked to the front door, opened it, and said ‘Alright, ‘” the affidavit states.
The Pennsylvania charges may give the D.A.’s office “a little bit more confidence” that another D.A. was willing to file charges in a case like this that happened “so long ago”, he said.
“On the evening in question, Mr Cosby urged her to take pills that he provided to her and to drink wine – the effect of which rendered her unable to move, (or to) respond to his advances, and he committed aggravated indecent assault upon her”, Steele said.
“A good defence lawyer will dissect all this bit by bit”, Mesereau said. He says the critical question a judge will have to determine is whether to allow prior alleged bad acts or would that be seen as prejudicial to defendant Bill Cosby? Former federal prosecutor Laurie Levenson said after his arraignment Wednesday, the Hollywood actor will likely be tight lipped. Cosby was arrested and charged with drugging and sexually assaulting a woman at his home in January 2004. “They deserve justice and peace.” and, “If I believed in hell Bill Cosby would be going there”.
He has previously said under oath he had a consensual sexual encounter with her.
“I think the fact that there are charges that have come out of this case, does show some signs of hope”, said Megan Blomquist of the group Rape Victim Advocates. I am not stopped, ” Cosby testified.

“It’s rational for jurors to expect the defendant to explain himself, especially in “he-said, she-said” cases”.
