What the NH Primary Results Mean for Clinton, Kasich

The next Republican contest is the February 20 SC primary.

New Hampshire is just one state, but the exit poll numbers coming out of it do not lend themselves to an obvious anti-Trump strategy.

U.S. Republican presidential candidate and Ohio Governor John Kasich talks with his wife Karen outside a polling place at Broad Street Elementary School in Nashua, New Hampshire, February 9, 2016.

Sanders’ win was a landslide over former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, no matter how you look at the results.

The victor in Iowa Hillary Clinton was well-beaten in New Hampshire, but is still considered favourite for the Democratic nomination. Mondale finally turned to Hart and said to him in a debate, reprising a line from a fast-food commercial of the time, “When I hear your new ideas, Gary, I am reminded of that commercial, ‘Where’s the beef?'” Clinton may need something similar, a moment where she changes the current dynamic of the race and forces people to pause and reassess their consideration of Sanders.

It’s going to get hard for high- profile Democrats who support Clinton and high-profile Republicans who oppose Trump. Her campaign has denied reports it is considering a shakeup but acknowledged it would be natural to add members to their team as the campaign progresses. He said, “There is magic in the air with this campaign”.

Sanders took an astounding 83 percent of the vote among those under age 30, and managed not only to overwhelmingly win whites, but to tie Clinton among the state’s sliver of nonwhite voters. They are anxious about the economy and distrust establishment politicians they perceive as being part of the problem.

Donald Trump, who has drawn a chilly reception from Jewish Republicans, swept to a commanding victory in the primary with an impressive 34% of the vote. At his victory rally, Trump dispensed with niceties. Other candidates like Fiorina, and Carson, are at the point they should consider dropping out, since their continuation only saps time and resources from the GOP.

“The only candidate who can beat Donald Trump is me”, he said.

Republican candidates now head to SC. The next step: A new radio ad starring his brother former President George W. Bush.

“They’ve written me off in this campaign, over and over again”, Bush told supporters in Bluffton, South Carolina, arguing that his campaign got a new lease on life even though he finished fourth up north. “This campaign is not dead”.

Caryl Gayle, an Irmo real estate agent, said she is backing Rubio because he has the strong values needed to turn around the country. Yet a lackluster debate performance hurt Rubio’s attempt to become the anointed “establishment” pick, and Cruz’s far right social conservativism was a poor fit for a more moderate, fiscal conservative, libertarian state.

Now the fight moves to SC, a state with a lingering reputation for bare-knuckle campaign tactics. That’s according to a two people familiar with his plans, who spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly. Joan, 68, went for Sanders.

That isn’t going to be enough once the Republican field consolidates.
