What to Know About the NY and New Jersey Bombing Sites

The New Jersey State Police say they believe Rahami is also connected to the pipe bombs found near an Elizabeth train station.

The FBI and NY police have also been searching for possible links between the Chelsea bombing and another explosive device found a few blocks away that did not go off. On Sunday, five explosive devices were discovered in a trash can at an Elizabeth train station.

The man believed to be behind weekend bombings in Chelsea, Seaside Park and Elizabeth has been taken into custody following a incident with police in Linden, New Jersey.

Two Linden police officers were injured in the gunfire exchange, one in the torso and the other in the hand.

Obama said that the Islamic State was “instigating a lot of people over the Internet to carry out attacks” even as the terrorist group was “continuing to lose ground in Iraq and in Syria”.

The two bombs found in the trendy Manhattan neighborhood had signatures from bomb-making designs posted online, including in Al Qaeda’s Inspire magazine, according to sources. “We need the facts to be able to piece all this together”.

“I want New Yorkers to be confident when they go back to work on Monday that NY is up and running and we’re doing everything that we need to do”, he said. “Things are moving very quickly”.

Federal Bureau of Investigation and other law enforcement descended on an Elmora Avenue home early Monday morning where Rahami either now lives or used to live. Five explosives were at one location, and one of those went off while being disarmed by a bomb squad robot. No one was injured.

– Surveillance videos showed the same man near the site of the explosion in Chelsea and where a pressure-cooker device was found four blocks away, law enforcement sources told CNN. In the immediate aftermath of that bombing, de Blasio and Cuomo were careful to say there was no evidence of a link to global terrorism.

“Today’s information suggests it may be foreign related, but we’ll see where it goes”, Cuomo said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” Monday.

The search for the suspect associated with explosive devices found in NY and New Jersey led law enforcement to a fried chicken shop.

So far this year, non-federal authorities have already sent as many wireless emergency messages as they did in all the previous three years since the program’s nationwide launch in 2012, says Wade Witmer, deputy director of the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System program management office at the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

A bloody shootout on a New Jersey street ended Monday with the capture of a suspect in the bomb blast that wounded 29 people Saturday in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood, authorities said.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk about the ongoing investigation.

Another law enforcement official says investigators pulled over a auto carrying three men and two women “associated” with Rahami when it appeared headed toward an airport Sunday.

The defendants, including police officers and city officials, denied the allegations.

Investigators believe there are more people involved in the NY and New Jersey bombing plots than just Rahami, but they do not have a good idea who those people are, two USA officials told Reuters.

The probe started when a pipe bomb blew up Saturday morning in Seaside Park, New Jersey, before a charity race to benefit Marines. The race was canceled and no one was injured.

A third incident in Minnesota, where a man stabbed nine people before being shot, is being investigated separately as a “potential act of terrorism”, Obama said. The United States has seen a series of large-scale attacks, including mass shootings in Orlando, Florida, and San Bernardino, California, over the past year.
