With the joy of Emmy nominations always comes some pleasant surprises and some egregious snubs, and the 2016 list of nominees is no different.

“Game of Thrones” gets the chance to win its second top Emmy, while “Veep”, last year’s top comedy victor, also will get another shot at holding office.

Among the other nominations it bagged was: Best Writing for A Drama Series for David Benioff and D.B. Weiss for the episode Battle of the Bastards.

On the drama side, history-making Viola Davis, who previous year became the first minority to win a best drama series Emmy, for “How to Get Away with Murder”, should get the opportunity to double down on her achievement. “Black-ish” star Anthony Anderson and “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life” actress Lauren Graham help reveal the names at a live stream event, AceShowbiz said.

Streaming services broke through at the Emmys in 2013 when Netflix garnered 14 nominations for its drama series “House of Cards”.

For the best lead actress in a drama: Claire Danes, Viola Davis, Taraji P. Henson, Tatiana Maslany, Keri Russell, and Robin Wright.

All told the fictionalized version of the famous case scored 22 Emmy nominations, but failed to top HBO’s “Game of Thrones”, which came in with 23.

Actress, Limited Series or Movie: Felicity Huffman, American Crime; Lili Taylor, American Crime; Kerry Washington, Confirmation; Kirsten Dunst, Fargo; Audra Mc-Donald, Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill; Sarah Paulson, The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story. Brown played the role of prosecutor Christopher Darden. “I could not be more humbled”.

Five-time best comedy victor Modern Family was once again nominated – it is now tied with Frasier for the show with the most titles in the category. “I owe my performance whatever it is to him”.
