What to watch at the Rio Games on Thursday
Of her daughter and her Olympic achievements, Shanon said, “I just want to say I love you Simone …” Whenever Biles is on TV performing her mother is there clapping and cheering.

The first female gymnast to win three straight world titles and has now earned a gold medal in Rio De Janeiro during the women’s team all-around competition, also revealed that she leans on her Catholic faith before competitions. Gabby Douglas matched her best score of the year with a 15.766, and Madison Kocian had the best score of her career with a 15.933. Biles considers them her parents. It’s just you and yourself out there’.
Life hasn’t always been easy for Biles. The sisters had previously lived in foster care because their biological mother, Shanon Biles, dealt with substance abuse. Child welfare group Children’s Rights estimated that on any given day there are around 415,000 children in foster care in the United States. And by arguing on Twitter that “they are NOT her parents”, he inadvertently did a favor to adoptive families everywhere by giving them another reason to root for Simone, who at 19 years old is already the most decorated gymnast of all time. “She’s an fantastic young woman, who happens to swim”.
Which is why I thought it was odd, as I watched Sunday evening, that one broadcaster in particular – NBC’s Al Trautwig – kept referring to Simone’s parents as her grandparents.
It caused a social media storm – one that Biles was quick to avoid.
“It started in 2013 after a little bit before I made the world [championships] team”, Simone told NBC. “My parents are my parents and that’s it”, Biles said.
Trautwig has since apologized, for whatever that’s worth.
Simone Biles was born on March 14, 1997 in Columbus, Ohio. The instructors suggested she continue and she enrolled in an optional training program.
“People who called her my grandmother when I was a child confused me and upset me”. Every year the bond gets stronger and better and we understand each other more. I love that she is constantly smiling.
Like any thorough journalist, I knew that to make my article really compelling I couldn’t just rely on my own opinions. She was too young to compete in London in 2012 but set her sights on Rio and won 10 gold medals at the three world championships since.
Her biological father is completely out of the picture; Ron doesn’t even remember his name.
But America’s golden child at the Rio 2016 Olympics is undeniably Simone Biles.
Now all that remains is for her to do it again by herself.
Except she never does and rarely is.
Those treats are as repetitive as her success.
Father Semperi told LifeSiteNews that the family frequently asks for the congregation and priests to pray for Simone in her efforts both during Mass and privately.
Biles’ signature event is the floor routine, providing a canvas big enough to display her unrivalled strength and stamina. “Her routines and dismounts are so complex and so rarely seen in competition, several are named for her”.
“I personally don’t have a comment”, the gymnast told Us Weekly exclusively on Tuesday.
But whether Biles is willing to acknowledge it, her greatness is, in large part, a given.

The Biles family’s story is unique – almost as exceptional as her incomparable tumbling prowess.
