What we learned from the Ducks’ 3-0 loss to the Avalanche

The Ducks were shut out for the second straight game Friday in a 3-0 loss to the Colorado Avalanche and the third time in four games to start the season.

Due to the abysmal performance of the Anaheim Ducks at the start of the season, many have questioned the drive of the squad.

Berra made several big saves, but the Swiss netminder was backed by 41 blocked shots by his teammates as Colorado dropped the three-time defending Pacific Division champions to 0-3-1. Minnesota left wing Zach Parise is off to a blazing start with five goals on 18 shots and, like defenseman Ryan Suter (team-high five assists), has recorded a point in all four games – all one-goal contests for the Wild. Defenseman Sami Vatanen got the only tally early in the second period of a 2-1 shootout loss to Vancouver on Monday, and Anaheim has come up empty on 91 shots over 163 minutes, 4 seconds since. I’ve never seen it in my time coaching, and I can’t remember it when I was playing, going four games without a forward scoring.

Colorado Avalanche v Anaheim Ducks ANAHEIM, CA – OCTOBER 16: Alex Tanguay #40 of the Colorado Avalanche battles for position with Jakob Silfverberg #33 of the Anaheim Ducks during the first period of a game at Honda Center on October 16, 2015 in Anaheim, California. Goalie Frederik Andersen gave up a bad goal to Nathan MacKinnon in the first period but he hasn’t been the problem. We know we can score goals.

“It’s something that we haven’t really gone through pretty much since I’ve been here, and it’s tough”, said Perry, who had never been held scoreless in a season’s first four games.

“It’s going to break and when it does, it’s going to feel good”.

Although the Avs’ offense didn’t exactly look like world-beaters either, they had a chance in the second period to do something the Ducks weren’t: cycle the puck with a sustained possession in their offensive zone.

“It was fun”, Beauchemin said.

“The guys played great in front of me”, Berra said.

Beauchemin won the Stanley Cup with the Ducks in 2007. He left the club in free agency last offseason when general manager Bob Murray apparently wouldn’t meet his desire for a three-year contract. “Just getting pucks to the net and my teammates driving to the net and creating space for me and just those things”, Mitchell, who scored a career-best 12 goals during his rookie season with Toronto in 2006-07, told reporters.
