(Newsflare via The AOL.on Network) A freaky video has emerged of a huge, multi-colored cloud appearing in the sky in Escazu, Costa Rica.

It led some to describe the incredible phenomenon as being “like a sign of God”. We were just so amazed.

Resident Joey Petit told ABC News today that he and his family were at the playground in Escazu for an Independence Day festival when his 11-year-old son, Ariel Joseph Petit first noticed the unusual cloud.

Instagrammer Kevin Otway posted his pictures with the caption: “IlluOminous perturbations”, while Natalia Delgado added: “Definitely something I’ve never seen!”

Jessie Montealegre from Escazu took the breathtaking event as a “sign of God”.

However, experts said the cloud has a less divine explanation – a rare phenomenon known as “cloud iridescence”.

“It grows taller and taller and it can encounter winds building across the top of it and it can push it up and act like an obstacle. It’s not a common cloud to see”.

Eladio Solano, a meteorologist at the National Meteorological Institute, explained to Teletica that iridescence occurs when sunlight refracts just right off the drops of water and ice in the clouds.
