WhatsApp has now introduced a feature for the Android version which allows the users to mark the received messages as unread even after reading the message, like we can do in Gmail.

At the moment these features have only been made available to Android users, who have to manually install the update from WhatsApp’s page.

You just have to tap and hold on the conversation, the uses can simply change the status as green, so that it helps as a reminder for him/her to respond later.

Of course, messages inside the conversation will still be marked read – so you can’t pretend to your mates or partner that you haven’t seen their message.

Right after the Voice Calling feature was released for WhatsApp, a lot of users claimed that the application is using too much data for this feature.

Excited? Sadly, this feature will not make it seem as if you have not read the message yet, instead it will only help you highlight important messages so you can get back to them later.

There may be many groups on your list which are forever on mute mode but with this feature you will be able to mute individual contacts.

The new update also allows users to set notification light colours, as well as enable or disable pop-up notifications for each contact. Under the Media box in a contact or group, one will find a Notifications box that lets them mute notifications for as brief as eight hours or as long as one year. On tapping the backup option, the app requested users to enter a Google account to backup/ restore files to. There’s also a big hint to an upcoming feature – backup whatsapp data on Google Drive.

With the new update WhatsApp's Android users can also set custom notifications for contacts and groups
