WhatsApp users make 100 million calls every day

The messaging app WhatsApp announced on Thursday that 100 million voice calls are made daily, or 1,100 calls per second on its platform. Today, more than 100 million voice calls are made everyday on WhatsApp.

The larger emojis reportedly look to follow the lead of Apple’s Messages app, which are set to support similar features in the upcoming release of the tech giant’s new operating system, iOS 10. Over 1,100 calls are made every second, highlighting the demand for WhatsApp around the world. In comparison, Skype users are more likely to use the app on their computers.

This feature is no doubt a great option to stay in touch with your dear ones especially those residing in other countries and while messaging alone is not sufficient. Like WhatsApp Web, the desktop app is simply an extension of the phone: the app mirrors conversations and messages from the mobile device. Due to a high inclination and demand on the part of their users, WhatsApp began to develop a voice calling feature in 2013 and unveiled the idea during the MWC 2014 meet. A huge number, yes, but not quite as huge as the billion user milestone the company hit back in February. During that time, it was revealed by the company that it had 800 million active users every month and the number of messages being handled is more than the SMS messages sent across the world. 100 million calls every day could be the start of bigger things to come for WhatsApp in the coming years. However, that is not the main worry here-the fact that WhatsApp is already working on a video call feature which should be available from next update [probably], is quite intimidating for rivals.

The company more recently said that users spent more than 50 minutes per day on Facebook, Instagram and Messenger combined, but didn’t include WhatsApp in that round-up.

These numbers prove that WhatsApp call is fast becoming the preferred way to communicate for people talking across borders. The company said it is “humbled” by the response to voice calling, a feature that is still relatively new.
