When Texas Tech has the ball against LSU in Texas Bowl
Texas Tech’s real chance at beating LSU rests on the Red Raiders, improbably, figuring out a way to improve dramatically on defense, but even then the Tech offense had better hope it is connecting from beyond the 3-point arc and can put up a basketball-like total.

He set an individual scoring record of 30 points in the Texas Bowl Tuesday by rushing for 212 yards and four touchdowns and catching a 44-yard scoring strike in a 56-27 win over Texas Tech. Fournette is still one of college football’s best players despite falling short of early Heisman expectations and will be the biggest focus during LSU’s Texas Bowl matchup against Texas Tech on Tuesday. The last time was at the 10:28 mark of the third quarter when Reginald Davis scored on a 31-yard touchdown pass from Patrick Mahomes.
Harris was 13-of-22 passing with the touchdown to Fournette and one interception.
Texas Tech entered the Texas Bowl with one of the worst run defenses in the nation.
Despite missing two quarterbacks, an award-winning receiver and a 1,000-yard running back, the Bears’ top-ranked scoring offense stayed creative, pounding out 645 yards rushing and 756 total yards – both records.
And the Tigers were off. LSU’s defense collected sacks from defensive tackle Davon Godchaux and middle linebacker Kendell Beckwith and forced two punts on the Red Raiders’ first two series of the game. The cloud of negativity that will follow this team if they do fall to 7-5 Texas Tech could have dire consequences. Harris found Dupre on a 32-yard pass to set up a 2-yard leap by Fournette for another touchdown and 49-27 lead with 8:16 to play in the game.
Following a 21-yard kickoff return by Guice, sophomore wide receiver D.J. I know Fournette’s season high is only 244 rushing yards, but I won’t be shocked if he hits 250 against Tech.
The Tigers’ game plan was simple: get the ball to All-American running back Leonard Fournette, again and again and again. Jakeem Grant, Tech’s all-time leading receiver, could give LSU nightmares if the Tigers don’t account for him in open space. He is the main reason that LSU averages more in rushing (245.9 ypg) than it does in passing (173.1 ypg). But Miles said that despite the Tigers ability to run the football, balance on offense will be critical to their success against the Red Raiders. Fournette could very well reach the 200-yard plateau comfortably and 300 yards is not that outrageous.
In fact, Perry got to where he would dread for LSU to win a game. Lsu Tigers recorded 173.1 passing yards and 246.6 rushing yards while allowed 211.0 passing yards and 131.5 russhing yards with turnover differential of -0.6. The first two times these men met came when Kingsbury was quarterback at Texas Tech and Miles coached Oklahoma State in 2001 and 2002. The 46-yard pass setup a 4-yard touchdown run by Fournette, his fourth score of the night.
“Yeah, they don’t stop too many people, but you’ve got to look at it like this”, Hawkins said. LSU scored its most points this season and finished with its most yards.

The Tigers are a run-based offense and the quarterback position is mediocre, but as long as Brandon Harris doesn’t turn it over, LSU should be fine.
