Meanwhile, the biggest, most lucrative fight that the UFC could realistically make would be Conor McGregor against Georges St-Pierre, the best ever welterweight champion who is one of UFC’s all-time fighters.

Following the bout the Irishman immediately claimed he wanted a third fight with Diaz to complete their trilogy.

“I’ve got to sit down and see what piece of the pie they’re offering me now, and take it from there”.

‘All I know is that it’s 1-1, ‘ McGregor said in his post-match interview ‘The king is back. I don’t want to sound bitter, because I got paid and it’s all good. “I’ve got to figure out what’s next, but right now, I don’t know what’s next”.

“We’ll see. I have other stuff in the pipeline”.

Diaz lost a majority decision to McGregor to leave their rivalry at 1-1 after the Californian won their original encounter at UFC 196 in March.

Granted, he wouldn’t stand a chance in either of those fights under boxing rules, but from an entertainment point of view – it would certainly generate a lot of interest.

After the win, “Rumble” and light-heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier exchanged words, but when the crowd began to boo the champion, Johnson declared that they should have more respect for the titleholder.

Diaz insists he won the fight though, and the prospect of a third deciding encounter is a near-certainty even if it won’t be their next bout.

Cerrone unloaded a lethal finishing sequence on the welterweight veteran. That toughness and durability that he has crept back in during the later rounds but I feel happy to come away with the win. He ran the whole fight, he should have got a yellow card for that.
