“Sound Go Round has been super awesome to local bands and businesses and this is the second year in a row that they’ve invited us to perform acoustic in store for the event”, said Tyler Reed, the lead singer of Lila Ignite.

This year, Record Store Day will see releases by the likes of Twenty One Pilots, Mumford & Sons and Florence and the Machine among classic recordings by Bob Dylan, The Kinks, Patti Smith and The Sonics. To promote the project, Helmreich partnered with Luna Music to give vinyl copies of “Blood on the Table” to the day’s first 50 customers at the store.

They are discs that have never been available on vinyl before. Fans of the recently departed David Bowie will have a chance to get a limited edition pressing of six songs from very early in his career on I Dig Everything – The Pye Singles 1966.

For anyone who loves the feel of sliding a record out of its sleeve, hearing the crackle as the needle hits the plastic and that inimitable, rich timbre of vinyl, then Record Store Day is for you. “And the fact that you can see that when you pick up a vinyl record is so unbelievable to me”.

Record Store Day honors the shops that purvey in music in its many playback-able forms.

Newport City Radio managing director Ian Lamsdale, said: “Record Store Day has become a key date in our live events schedule”.

He added: “If anyone would like to be in the audience (and therefore on the record) they should please turn up at around 1pm”. There is one day a year, however, to remind people of what they are missing.
