While champions fall, Lawler tries to keep belt vs. Condit

After the fight, Condit said “I felt like I had three rounds in the bag, but that’s why you don’t leave it to the judges”.

UFC 195 was headlined with Robbie Lawler looking to defend his title against Carlos Condit. “He came with a game plan and we battled it out”.

“I’m willing to take those chances and with big chances come big rewards”.

“It was close though”, Condit said.

Woodley was promised the shot in the aftermath of his last scheduled bout against Johny Hendricks that fell apart when the former welterweight champion failed to make weight, leading to the cancellation of the fight. Our own Wrestling Inc coverage had it listed as a 10-10 draw, as the two went back and forth with strikes, finding brief stints of success, but never really damaging the other fighter. I go through different phases where there’s times of self-doubt, but when the bell rings and it’s time to throw down and I get another opponent in my face, I just go to work my best. There was a worry in the MGM Grand Garden Arena, where this UFC 195 could be a disaster after the hangover of last month’s UFC 194 card.

It was action-packed at the onset with the champion landing some solid shots but the challenger responded with a vicious left-handed shovel that dropped Lawler, who immediately rose after.

Robbie Lawler and Carlos Condit had the misfortune of headlining a pay-per-view on the heels of back-to-back shows starring MMA’s two biggest active draws, and while the buyrate and gates will surely see a decrease from the preceding events, the two welterweight warriors delivered in every way possible.

But Condit was undeterred, continuing to pressure and attack the champion, who gallantly hanged on. Now that UFC 195 is in the books, it’s time to commence MMAjunkie’s “Three Stars” ceremony.

“[Lawler]’s our Evander Holyfield man, right?”

Condit’s fourth round output had Lawler damaged badly, as he out-struck him 48-6 with a flurry after flurry, pressuring the champion and making it seem fairly clear that Lawler needed a finish in the fifth to win. Miocic celebrated his victory by running across the cage to White and UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta, yelling at them to “Give me my shot! If I didn’t, like I didn’t, I have to see if I can continue to do this”, he said, hinting at thoughts of retirement at 31 years old. “I fight and usually it turns out well for me”. Both fighters, who are violent in a way gave us a Fight of the Year contender. “And, I like I said, I feel very, very confident”. It is definitely worth noting a fighter’s weaknesses, but it is not something that Lawler would do based off of his fighting style and past fights.
