While Flint Was Being Poisoned, State Workers “Quietly” Provided Water Coolers
A January 7, 2015, notice from the state Department of Technology, Management and Budget, which oversees state office buildings, references a notice about a violation of drinking water standards that had recently been sent out by the city of Flint. He says the water coolers still are supplied to the state building in Flint.

Last fall, studies conducted by the local Hurley Medical Center and later by the state found that lead levels in the blood of Flint children younger than 5 had almost doubled since the city began tapping from the Flint River.
The Governor has extended his emergency declaration in Flint till April 14th.
The package will allocate funding to supply free bottles of water, faucet filters and testing kits for Flint residents; replace fixtures in schools; treat affected children and help relieve residents of water bill payments.

The Michigan Legislature has unanimously approved $28 million in additional funding to address the lead contamination of Flint’s water. Stabenow refused to say whether Democrats would block the energy bill with a filibuster if Republicans don’t agree to support the measures for Flint.
The city’s water is now undrinkable after it became contaminated when Flint switched from the Detroit water system to the Flint River as a cost-cutting move.
As details emerge about how officials have known about the tainted water and simply allowed the public to consume it without taking action, newly released documents reveal that the state wasn’t entirely without action – for themselves.

The Democratic legislation would provide $400 million to help pay for the replacement of the contaminated pipes but requires the state do a dollar for dollar match, which would cover the cost of the project, according to preliminary estimates from the state.
