White: Bisping to defend MW title against Henderson, maybe in Manchester

Souza defeated Vitor Belfort, earning the next shot at the title in his mind, although it looks like a rematch of the legendary Henderson-Bisping 1 fight, which took place at the original UFC landmark event, UFC 100, is next up. That fight follows both men to this day, and it’s easy to see why fans would remain interested in the matchup, and why the UFC would see dollar signs around it.

UFC president Dana White said the match is not officially booked for a venue or date, but he hopes to schedule it for a possible October card in Bisping’s former hometown of Manchester, England. “It’s not actually signed yet”. Though Henderson is coming off an electrifying knockout win over Hector Lombard at UFC 199, where he shocked the world by winning with a head kick into a reverse elbow combination, he owns a subpar 3-6 record since 2013.

It’s a loss that Bisping will never forget and one he would like to get back.

“Dan Henderson is someone that I would like to shut up”, Bisping explained to TMZ last month. Henderson knocked Bisping out with a giant right hand – and landed a second right hand once Bisping was on the canvas.

Henderson told FOX Sports just after his win over Lombard that if he got the chance to fight Bisping for the title that he would retire after the bout no matter whether he wins or not.

Capping off what is undoubtedly a Hall of Fame career with a title fight victory would certainly be a fitting end for Henderson. Henderson has competed for UFC gold before, but still hasn’t wrapped that title around his waist.

Speaking to exclusively to Daily Star Sport, he said: “That is the mean reason (why I want to fight him)”.
