White House hopefuls move on to New Hampshire

Republican Ted Cruz may have prevailed in Iowa despite the polls favouring Donald Trump but New Hampshire is quite a different challenge with a more moderate and less religious electorate than the evangelical Cruz would like.

The Cruz campaign issued an apology to Carson on Tuesday, saying it should have clarified that Carson was, in fact, continuing his bid for the Republican nomination.

A University of MA poll out Wednesday showed the bombastic billionaire leading in the Granite State with 38% support among likely GOP voters, with Cruz and Marco Rubio in a distant second and third, with 14% and 12% respectively.

Cruz’s campaign dismissed Trump’s claims with humor.

“During primetime of the Iowa Caucus, Cruz put out a release that @RealBenCarson was quitting the race, and to caucus (or vote) for Cruz”, Trump tweeted. “Donald trump guaranteed a victory in Iowa and then he lost, and he doesn’t like that”.

“Ted Cruz didn’t win Iowa, he stole it”, Mr Trump tweeted. “Now, as I stand here tonight breathing a sigh of relief – thank you”, said Hillary Clinton at her event where about 700 people were in attendance.

Trump also hit Cruz over a provocative mailer the senator’s campaign had sent some voters in Iowa.

Bernie Sanders, a self-described democratic socialist, amassed the largest number of new Facebook followers of any candidate in the race during Monday, the social network said.

For the very closest races, the AP depends heavily on actual vote returns, as they slowly or rapidly flow in depending on circumstances, to make a call.

The New Hampshire primary will take place on Tuesday. “He did pretty well considering Cruz was praying with everyone at every rally (in Iowa) and they’re a really religious state”.

“I don’t know that it’s appreciated by the voters”.

Continuing the tweetstorm, Trump also pointed to a much-criticized Cruz mailer mocked up to look like an official notice from election authorities and geared at shaming Iowans into voting for him.

Meanwhile, Mr Trump has predicted he will win over voters next week in New Hampshire, where he has a substantial lead in polls.
