White House joins Snapchat ahead of State of the Union address

With his last term in the White House coming to a close, President Obama is doing all that he can to dedicate his time to pushing gun control and educating Americans on why taking action on such matters are important, since Congress has not passed legislation doing so.

In a demonstration of the extensive adoption of Venice-based social messaging service Snapchat, the White House said that it has launched its own “Official Story” on Snapchat.

“At the White House, our digital strategy centers around meeting people where they are”.

The White House said that Adminstration will provide behind-the-scenes glimpses of the current Administration, and is part of an effort to provide the American people with a multitude of ways to engage with their government via social media. The White House posted the speech on Medium.com for anyone to read, instead of just passing out advanced copies to members of the media.

Snapchat, a mobile app where photos, videos and messages disappear in seconds, has more than 100 million active users, most under the age of 25.

The White House announced Monday in an official blog post that it had created an official Snapchat account under the username “WhiteHouse”.

There is a bowl of apples in the Oval Office this morning, and I know that because I saw it on Snapchat. For his 2015 State of Union address, Obama also made an unprecedented move by publishing the full transcript on the blogging site Medium before presenting it on live television or sharing a copy with the media.

The White House has been attempting to take advantage of that recently, launching the @POTUS Twitter account in May of past year.

The White House’s use of the platform may help drive some traffic to the app.

We’ll see how the presidential snaps turn out in the future.
