White House: more time needed for new Iran missile sanctions
Iran’s president denounced the United States on Thursday for suggesting the possibility of new sanctions over Iranian missiles, and he ordered his Defense Ministry to respond by swiftly building more of them.

The U.S. Congress has been notified of those deliberations.
Analysts said the recent flare-up would not necessarily disrupt the nuclear deal. “If we don’t do that, we invite Iran to cheat”.
Iranian state television aired in October unprecedented footage of such an underground missile base.
The White House has warned that the United States might move on its own if the UN fails to act.
The U.S. announcement triggered angry response from Iran. On Implementation Day, the U.N., European Union and US will all lift certain nuclear-related sanctions against Iran. Bob Corker (R., Tenn.), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. But of course this stated justification may merely serve as cover for Iranian efforts to gain as much financial leverage as the clerical regime can from the climate of rapprochement surrounding the nuclear deal. The official said other undeclared tests occurred earlier than that, but declined to elaborate.
Ballistic missile tests by Iran are prohibited under Security Council resolution 1929, which was passed five years ago and remains valid until July’s nuclear deal goes into effect.
According to Pillar, Iran’s development of missiles is linked to the 1980s Iran-Iraq war, in which cities on both sides were routinely hit with ballistic missiles. So Iran can afford to bluster and dare the U.S. to sanction them.
“I would expect the Iranians to complete the work necessary to move forward with implementation in the coming weeks”. In the end, Iran will have its missiles, its money, and more than likely, its nukes.
A special adviser is needed to make sure that all required sanctions against Iran are being imposed, Florida Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen said in a letter to House Speaker Paul Ryan. “That perception is damaging to President Rouhani, who’s taking credit for the deal”.
“As long as the United States supports Israel we will expand our missile capabilities”, the Revolutionary Guards’ second-in-command, Brigadier General Hossein Salami, was quoted as saying by the Fars news agency. The US has said that it has shelved plans for fresh sanctions.
“We will not stop developing our defense and deterrent power and this is a demand by the Muslim nation of Iran”, Salami said. But on Thursday the newspaper said the measures had been delayed-although they remain on the table-over fears the nuclear deal could be derailed.

Sen. Coons’s stated concern about the White House’s inaction on the sanctions represents broader disquiet inside the Democratic Party about the nuclear deal. He said so far the administration has not taken such action despite acknowledging Iran’s violation of the UNSC resolution.
