Schumer and Sen. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) are the only Senate Democrats who have said they will vote against the agreement.

Stabenow acknowledged the “deep fear and emotion” involved in the debate, adding the agreement isn’t based on trust with the Iranians but on strict inspections and verification.
There is some willingness to let Congress and its leaders do what they want. “If this exact same deal was negotiated by Romney or McCain, numerous same goons and their supporters would’ve taken the opposite position including some of us commenting on this story”.
“This agreement is not ideal, but is the best available option”, Esty said. However, one in three aren’t sure what Congress should do in that circumstance.
Jeremy Ben-Ami, president of J Road, a liberal Jewish group supporting the deal, stated his group is telling senators that because the deal clearly appears to command the help to prevail in the long run, they need to assume twice about voting for a decision of disapproval that may exclusively find yourself getting vetoed. An override would require opponents mustering 13 Democrats to join all 54 Republicans in opposition to the president.
September’s big vote (or lack thereof) is a win-win for congressional Republicans-they get to oppose the deal without the responsibility that comes with it-and for Obama, who gets his Iran deal, after all.
But the fate of Israel is a factor for many. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), the anticipated next Democratic leader in the upper chamber, will oppose it.
The agreement reached in July by Iran, Germany, the United States and the four other permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, requires Iran to halt its nuclear program in return for a removal of economic sanctions that have, among other things, hurt its ability to sell oil. He believes the agreement is based on hope and nothing more.
