White House picks Calif. site for meeting with Asian leaders
President Barack Obama will visit Germany in April to meet with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in an effort to boost U.S.-European trade and investment, the White House said Wednesday.

The White House has refused to comment specifically on the scope of the actions or when they will be issued.
But advocacy groups say some of the people who sell firearms at gun shows are not federally licensed, increasing the chance of sales to customers prohibited by law from purchasing a gun.
Both the White House and gun safety advocates acknowledge the president has limited powers to combat gun violence on his own. However with Congress unlikely to approve any new gun curbs before the 2016 election, the measures are reportedly what gun control advocates have been hoping for before Obama leaves workplace.
According to officials, the focus of Obama’s administration on gun control is to close the ‘gun show loophole, ‘ which allows certain gun sellers, whether at shows or other events, to avoid background checks before making sales.
The Senate rejected a similar proposal in 2013, shortly after the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre claimed the lives of 20 children and six adults.
Congress would still need to act in order to make background checks fully universal.
The National Rifle Association opposes expanded background check systems.
The current law is that full-time gun sellers are required to perform background checks, but occasional sellers or those selling from a personal collection are exempt.
Media reports from the USA say Obama will start his final year in office by imposing harsher gun control regulations through executive order.
The group also recommended Obama define a gun in a “personal collection” as having been in the seller’s possession for at least a year.
