The Prince George’s County Police Department arrested Barvetta Singletary, 37, of the 13000 block of Burnished Wood Court in Upper Marlboro in what police say was a domestic dispute.
Authorities say 37-year-old Barvetta Singletary had argued with the Capitol officer. When the officer refused to reveal that information, Singletary reached into the officer’s bag and grabbed two cell phones and his service weapon, according to charging documents.
Roll Call reports that Singletary faces first- and second-degree assault charges, plus one count of reckless endangerment. When he refused, she pulled out his service weapon and pointed it at him.
Once they were finished around 5:30 a.m., she allegedly asked him about the other women he was dating, police said. That’s when she pointed the gun at her boyfriend again and shot once into the sofa where he was sitting.
The officer, who was not injured, was off-duty at the time, according to Prince George’s County police.
Singletary then ran back to her home with her boyfriend following.
They both went to his auto after she asked him to step outside.
“You taught me how to use this, don’t think I won’t use it,” Singletary reportedly said.
She fired a shot into the sofa where he was sitting.
A White House staffer was arrested late Friday after she got into a heated argument with her boyfriend that led to violence.
Singletary then fired at the officer and missed, documents state.
She was arrested at the scene.
Upon her hire, a senior White House official described Singletary to Politico as having an “even keeled nature”. “We will take additional actions as needed”.

In a separate statement, a spokesperson for the Capitol Police said: “We are investigating the matter mindful on the underlying criminal investigation”. Before joining the White House staff, she worked as Policy Director for the Office of the Assistant Democratic Leader, Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC).
