White Sox beat Royals 3-2 to avoid sweep
If the Chicago White Sox can get anywhere near that from the former Baltimore starter signed to a minor league deal April 3, they should be in good shape for his home debut Saturday against the Kansas City Royals. Both players fell to the ground, and Gordon landed against the tarpaulin.

NEW YORK – David Wright laced a game-winning single with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning as New York came back to beat Milwaukee. He passed a concussion test and was listed as day to day.
The White Sox snapped a 13-inning scoreless streak on Jose Abreu’s bases-loaded double-play grounder in the seventh. Oh well. The KC Royals now head to Minnesota to take on the Twins. Ventura is 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA in three career outings at U.S. Cellular. He had a couple of rocky sequences, including a four-hit second inning that led to Kansas City’s first run.
“We needed to win this game”, Cabrera said. “You put yourself in a position to sweep them, but Rodon did a nice job of pitching today. We didn’t have a lot of missed opportunities that I’m lamenting right now”.
“We’ve been scuffling with guys on base, especially with two outs”, Ventura said.
The White Sox held on for a 3-2 win against the Royals to improve to 26-18 on the season.
With a cool breeze blowing and clouds threatening to break into showers at any minute, the Braves and Phillies sped through the first three innings in under 45 minutes. The ball stayed in the middle of the zone.
Ventura said he sees players pressing, including Abreu before his double play. “No”, Yost said. “There’s just not a spot for him.”…
In the moments after the game, Gordon headed to the trainers room to receive treatment on his ailing wrist – the same wrist he underwent surgery on before last season. Seattle is 6-0-1 in seven road series. Yet the Royals could still feel good about their trip to Chicago. Rodon, who never has faced Kansas City, has served up two home runs in each of his last two outings and is 0-2 with a 5.68 ERA in four starts at home.
Mike Trout homered for the second straight game and Carlos Perez added a solo shot for the Angels, who have scored 52 runs in the last eight games after just eight in their previous five games.
The Royals got one of those runs back in the sixth off Rodon. Orlando is batting. 484 this month, making an nearly daily case for a more permanent role in right field.
The result was a 3-2 Sox victory.
Lorenzo Cain scored Kansas City’s second run with a leadoff homer in the sixth inning. Wolters was given an RBI single and Jaso was charged with an error – the Pirates’ third – for allowing Descalso to score. Alex Gordon led off with a single, followed by a double by the red-hot Paulo Orlando.
The Royals had sliced into the lead in the top of the sixth, manufacturing a run on two hits and a sacrifice fly from Omar Infante.
Sunday’s victory began with Adam Eaton’s sliding catch into a wall down the right-field line on the first pitch of the game to Alcides Escobar. “You make a mistake, they’re going to capitalize”. In truth, he said, he was just collecting himself.
Royals: Gordon’s status was said to be day-to-day. “You know, I think he knows what he needs to do”. That’s why I was kind of taking it slow. “I’m just letting the defense play”.
For Gordon, the start of the 2016 season has not been a pleasant ride. He is 3-0 in four home starts but 1-3 in five road games. On Sunday, he finished 1 for 3.
His production has waned and his team’s offense has suffered. Both remained in the game, and Whit Merrifield pinch hit for Gordon the next inning.

“He’ll be fine”, Frazier said of Abreu.
