The Chicago White Sox designated left-hander John Danks for assignment and recalled right-hander Erik Johnson from Triple-A Charlotte in time for Thursday’s start against the Boston Red Sox.

The 26-year-old has started 16 games for the White Sox split nearly equally over the last three seasons, compiling a record of 7-4 with a 4.17 ERA and 1.55 WHIP.

Johnson is 1-1 with a 3.74 ERA and 16 strikeouts in four starts with Charlotte this year.

Jackie Bradley Jr.is 0-for-2 with 1 walk. David Ortiz and Brock Holt added two hits apiece for Boston, which moved to 17-11 on the season, and held on to first place in the AL East with the victory. Chicago eventually walked off with a 2-1 win, with the winning run scoring on a throwing error by Xander Bogaerts with two outs in the ninth inning.

Hanigan also added an RBI double in the second inning, which gave the Sox a 2-1 lead.

OUR PREDICTION: The over is 6-0 in Owens’ last six road starts and 9-4 in his last 13 starts overall. Mookie Betts then nailed Brett Lawrie trying to score on Austin Jackson’s fly to right, ending the inning.

Petricka, 27, pitched in nine games, most recently on May 1 when he allowed one hit in 1/3 of an inning, and is 0-0 with a 4.50 ERA.
