White Sox Game Notes For Tuesday vs. Kansas City

Chicago White Sox pitcher Jeff Samardzija owes Trayce Thompson dinner tonight (or lunch tomorrow) because the left fielder saved the game for him Tuesday night. Right-hander David Robertson retired the side in order in the ninth for his 33rd save.

Chicago White Sox’s Jose Abreu hits an RBI single off Kansas City…

“Like I’ve said before, you just keep going”, Samardzija said. Outfielder Adam Eaton smashed another changeup, also waist-high, into the Royals bullpen for a two-run homer soon after.

Cueto lost for the third time in his four September outings, and gave up three runs and eight hits over six innings. He thinks a mechanical issue was the biggest reason for his struggles in the season’s final two months, when he went 3-8 and dropped all six he started in August.

FOX Sports Kansas City’s Ryan Lefebvre and Rex Hudler will host the event and be joined on the field by General Manager Dayton Moore, Manager Ned Yost and select Royals players. The two solo shots, which snapped a 17-inning scoreless drought for the Royals, were the only offense Kansas City could muster. Game 3: Medlen like his two teammates needs a good start here to ease concerns heading to October.

Like with Thompson’s catch, Olt’s play at third prevented the Royals from tying the game.

Still, the Royals are focused on clinching home-field advantage in the postseason. His catch in the seventh was the highlight of the game.

“Personally, he feels better”, catching coach Pedro Grifol said, translating for Cueto.

The Royals put a runner in scoring position in the eighth, but Chicago third baseman Mike Olt snagged a line drive by Mike Moustakas that appeared headed for left field. “The guy on first right there (Escobar), he can run. He’s one of those veterans who have been great to me”. Samardzija, who will become a free agent after the season, finished a disappointing walk year with his second straight strong start, pitching seven innings of two-run ball following a one-hit shutout against the Tigers.

The White Sox held a 3-0 lead after five innings, scoring on Abreu’s single in the third and getting two more in the fifth on Eaton’s 14th homer of the season.
