White Sox’ Sale loses in return from suspension

Chapman earned his first save for the Cubs since being acquired from the Yankees, leaving the crowd buzzing by consistently throwing 102 miles per hour. Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale, left, and starting pitcher John Lackey pass each other after Sale fielded a ground ball by Lackey and threw him out first to end the second inning of a baseball game Thursd. He walked two, hit a batter and gave up three hits while throwing 60 pitches through his first three innings. Bryant’s 26th homer matched his total last season when he was NL Rookie of the Year.

Pitching coach Don Cooper offered unequivocal support for Sale. “Going back and forth on a lot of different thoughts and ideas”, Maddon said.

“I think everyone is making a little bigger deal of this than it really is”, Sale said.

“They said their side”. He could possibly start Sunday against the Twins or Tuesday against the Tigers.
