White Sox say fire in storage room won’t affect home opener

The last of the inch or so of snow was removed from the outfield about 45 minutes before Saturday’s first pitch.

Chicago White Sox manager Robin Ventura isn’t too concerned about the quick turnaround his team must endure in returning to the midwest for an afternoon home opener against the Cleveland Indians on Friday.

“We just didn’t string together enough good at-bats against Latos”, A’s catcher Stephen Vogt said. That’s a big change from a year ago, when he struggled in a big way early on and took about five weeks before he drove in a run.

“I thought it was the right thing to do”, Francona said. “I put in my mind to keep their score down”. Then, after Brett Lawrie flied out to center for the second out, Avisail Garcia came through by hammering an 0-2 fastball over the wall in right for a three-run dinger to give the Sox a 7-3 lead. The Indians were able to add two more runs in the top of the second inning with a RBI triple by Rajai Davis and sacrifice fly by Jason Kipnis. I’ll re-iterate it again: I love the Mike Napoli signing. 228 with seven home runs and 21 RBIs in 70 games last season…. He gave up two runs and three hits in 5 1/3 innings.

Oakland lost three out of four to the underwhelming White Sox, hit just one home run, didn’t steal a base and hit an aggregate.212. The only player outside of Frazier with a hit was outfielder Austin Jackson.

The fans booed the four hits and five runs against Danks in the first two innings. “I’m very personable”, Frazier said. “Definitely pictured it going a lot different in my head”. Now that’s not saying Buehrle is one of the best pitchers in baseball, that’s not what anyone is saying. Left hander Jose Quintana makes his second start of the year when he opposes the visiting Indians. The ball blended in. I just looked up and it happened to be in the blue sky.

Last week I wrote a column about Opening Day, and why the lack of a youth audience for the Major League Baseball is our generation’s fault rather than theirs.

Chance the Rapper, who has become quite hat-friendly with the Sox, will be throwing out the first pitch.

On Deck: White Sox will send starter Chris Sale to the mound on Saturday to even the series against the Indians.

Indians: OF Lonnie Chisenhall (wrist) batted fourth for Triple-A Columbus in a rehab stint on Sunday after three consecutive postponements left him idle.

The season did not go the way the White Sox anticipated.

Indians: RHP Cody Anderson makes his first start after going 7-3 with a 3.05 ERA in 15 outings as a rookie last season.
