White Sox to acquire Todd Frazier from Reds in three-team deal
Frazier was traded from the Cincinnati Reds to the Chicago White Sox in a three-team deal that included the Dodgers. Rosenthal reported Cincinnati was getting shortstop Jose Peraza, outfielder Scott Shebler and second baseman Brandon Dixon from the Dodgers.

Chicago plans to move newly-acquired third baseman Brett Lawrie to second base to accomodate Frazier, according to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale. He set career highs in home runs (35) and RBIs (89) and posted his best OPS (.806) since 2012.
The White Sox wind up with third baseman Todd Frazier, who experienced a power surge with the Reds during the 2015 season. Anderson is rated by MLB.com as the #38 prospect in all of baseball. Peraza is the key to the Reds’ return and in order for the Dodgers to get involved in the deal by parting with him they receive the hard-throwing Montas from the White Sox.
It is no surprise the Indians are interested in Frazier, either. Perhaps his biggest moment came at the All-Star Game, when he edged Joc Pederson for the Home Run Derby crown in front of a hometown Cincinnati crowd.
Thompson, 24, saw his first big league action with the White Sox a year ago and batted. Frazier was eighth in wins above replacement among third basemen last season and is fifth over the last two, per FanGraphs.
Dixon, 23, was the Dodgers’ 3rd-round pick in the 2013 draft and hit.263/.303/.443 with five homers at three levels for the Dodgers last season. Montas, who appeared in seven major league games this year, is expected to be part of a triple-A rotation that includes Julio Urias, Jose DeLeon and Jharel Cotton. “Micah will get a chance to be around them more”.

With the Reds in re-building mode, it makes sense for them to deal Frazier while he has two years of control left. Though Thompson’s.295/.363/.533 slash line is much-improved over what he produced in the minors, many observers feel Thompson is capable of providing strong defense from all three outfield positions and hitting 20-25 home runs. 241 with 101 homers, 395 RBI and 94 stolen bases. Friedman added the Dodgers were uncertain of how Frazier would respond to being asked to move off third base. Montas is still only 22, but he has been around in the minors since he has been 17. The best might be Peraza, who made his major league debut in 2015.
