Who Helped JARED LETO Become THE JOKER? GRANT MORRISON Was His Guide

Speaking to DJ Zane Lowe on his Beats 1 radio show, Smith put it pretty simply. But the part of the interview that caught our attention was the section above (starting at 15:35, or 15:55 if you’re rushed) in which Will Smith talks about Jared Leto‘s infamous method acting in Suicide Squad.

He added, “I’ve only ever spoken to him as Deadshot and him as the Joker”. “I’m looking forward to meet [sic] him!” “He was all in on The Joker”.

Suicide Squad costars Will Smith and Jared Leto took this supervillain thing very seriously. And this was before he signed on to play The Joker in Suicide Squad. It blew our minds away. He sent co-star Margot Robbie a box with a dead rat in it. He sent bullets to Will Smith.

But don’t worry, Jared fans – Lowe, who’s a friend of Leto’s, assured him that the 30 Seconds To Mars frontman is actually a nice guy underneath the white make-up and “HAHA” tattoos. And although it nearly sounds implausible that he would be so extreme, Leto is known for staying in character for the entirety of filming, particularly in his Oscar-winning role in Dallas Buyers Club. Otherwise, we’ve already seen how twisted and unstable Leto’s Joker will be in the Comic-Con trailer that was officially released after leaking online. Sometimes an actor just has to throw himself entirely into a character in order to properly bring him to life, and it seems like in the case of the Joker, that’s become a staple of the performance. Let’s hope. We’ll find out for sure when Suicide Squad opens August 5th.
