Broadhurst, 50, overcame an opening-round 75 to become the third English player to win a PGA Tour Champions major. The soon-to-be senior at Arizona State understandably was in the negative column in all strokes gained categories in R4 with the exception of 0.597 in SG: Putting, finishing 2nd in the latter with a cumulative 8.808.

Johnson, who started the day tied with List for the lead, fell back early as he dropped four shots in his first four holes at Glen Abbey near Toronto.

Snedeker had five straight birdies on Nos.

“Unbelievable, can’t say anything else but that word”, reflected du Toit when asked about the cheering crowd and his remarkable day.

Johnson, Jon Rahm and Martin Laird tied for second.

The atmosphere he spoke of included the fans around the 18th hole serenading him with an impromptu rendition of O Canada after he slammed in an eagle putt from 40 feet.

But all eyes will be on du Toit, including those of his father Dave and mother Alison who have been with him every step of the way this week, and those of Team Canada coach Derek Ingram who talked about du Toit having a chance to win tomorrow and then said, “I can’t believe I’m actually saying this”.

But when Brandt Snedeker’s eagle chip from the bunker on 18 stayed in the sand, Vegas and his team were able to celebrate his accomplishment that earned him a spot on next week’s PGA Championship. “I’m looking forward to meeting him”.

“So I just kept pushing and kept firing at pins and kept really going right after it. I got a really good momentum, and obviously I was able to close it out with some birdies”. According to Ray, Doug Sanders (1956) was the last amateur to come out on top at the RBC Canadian Open, and Pat Fletcher (1954) was the last Canadian to do so. I was playing well, hitting it well and making a few putts.

Dustin Johnson eagled the par-5 16th but couldn’t duplicate the feat on the 18th.

Top-ranked defending champion Jason Day had a 67 to tie for 14th at 7 under.

The 52-year-old Spaniard had a bogey-free round in wind at 6-12 miles per hour on the mostly cloudy afternoon.

Rod Pampling and Greg Chalmers were the leading Australians after 36 holes but that pair both shot 76 to fall to a share of 60th at 2-over.

GURNEE, Ill. – Charley Hull and surprising England grabbed the lead in the UL International Crown, and the United States advanced with a sweep against Japan.

Stacy Lewis and Gerina Piller each closed out wins for the USA before Reid missed a birdie putt on 16, handing the decisive victory to Kerr. 2-6, bogeyed 11 and 15 and birdied the par-5 16th. The country with the most points at the end of the weekend wins a silver trophy. After all, du Toit expected very little. He ended up with a respectable 71 for the third round.
