Who’s an outsider? GOP establishment fears loss of standing

For months, Republican elites have lumped Trump and Cruz together, arguing that neither could win in November’s general election.

Romney, who has not endorsed a candidate, began his anti-Trump crusade last week, announcing during a speech in Utah that the GOP front-runner is a phony, fraud and a misogynist.

The Michigan victory sets Trump up for a potentially decisive day of voting on March 15, when Ohio, Florida, Illinois, Missouri and North Carolina – like Michigan, states rich in the delegates who will select their party’s nominee at July’s Republican National Convention – cast ballots. Trump said on Tuesday he has not assembled a foreign policy team, despite having said he would have one in place by February, and dismissed criticism his statements would be harmful to US interests.

There were a number of former Bush bundlers at the meeting who hadn’t decided on their next choice in the crowd.

But Cruz, spearheading the Stop Trump campaign, said it was essential for the very soul of America that the billionaire businessman was defeated.

Donald Trump has won Michigan’s Republican presidential primary, triumphing in a state with the third-most GOP delegates in the nominating contest so far.

“Ohio Gov. John Kasich is the best of the bunch, but if you measure a candidate by the caliber of his campaign, Kasich’s lack of traction and organization make a vote for him count for little”, the paper wrote.

Thevoting continues for the Republicans today in Mississippi, Idaho and Hawaii, and in MI for the Democrats.

For Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, Tuesday marked the latest in a series of disappointing nights.

“I’m not here asking any of you to pledge your support of me”, Cruz said, to thunderous applause and cheers. Rubio later said he has no intention of getting out of the race, and that his mediocre showing on Saturday was expected as the contests were in states he didn’t poll well in.

But in hypothetical one-on-one match-ups with Cruz and Rubio, Trump loses. Ted Cruz of Texas, and Sen.

Clinton claimed neither she nor her lawyers have been informed that any members of her staff or former staff are targets of an FBI investigation, which focuses on her use of a private email server while secretary of state. It takes 2,383 delegates to win the Democratic nomination.

Mr. Trump had sought to win Kansas, canceling an appearance at the Conservative Political Action Conference on Saturday to appear before Republicans in Wichita, Kansas’ largest city, just before the caucuses began on Saturday morning.

Rubio does not plan to leave Florida until after next week’s primary.

Kasich, the governor of OH who is looking for a strong finish in neighboring MI, reminded reporters that a candidate needs a majority of delegates to prevail – in this case, 1,237.
