Who to look for on Trump’s VP short list: Mike Flynn
Presumptive U.S. Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is giving consideration to retired Lieutenant General Michael Flynn as a potential vice presidential running mate, a Republican source familiar with the process said on Saturday. He is a former director of the Defense Intelligence Agency and former chairman of the Military Intelligence Board.

“Abortion, I think for women, these are hard issues”, Flynn told ABC’s Martha Raddatz on “This Week”. Dannenfelser said Flynn’s stance remains unacceptable to social conservatives. And even if Flynn doesn’t get the nod, he is likely to hold a key Trump administration post – with his increasingly prominent role in the campaign signaling new directions that Trump’s foreign policy may take.
After Flynn led several intelligence commands within the Army, Obama nominated him to lead the Defense Intelligence Agency in 2012.
As a businessman and real-estate developer, Trump also likes the idea of teaming up with another non-politician, the Post reported.
A source familiar with the matter confirmed to Reuters on Saturday that Flynn had emerged as a possibility.
In the 2016 election, Flynn became an early and vocal supporter of Trump’s bid for the White House, endorsing the real estate mogul in February 2016, and became an advisor on military and national security affairs. “It may give a little more credibility to Trump in terms of as I said one of the areas he’s lacking in”, said Israel. The comments received immediate backlash from conservatives and would prove a major hurdle to nominating the retired general at the Republican convention in Cleveland.
“It’s fantastic to me, for a kid from a little town in the smallest state in the union, Rhode Island”, said Flynn.
It’s hard to say with confidence just how strong Flynn’s chances of making the GOP ticket were before, but it’s easier to say they’re approaching zero now.
Flynn says he is not opposed to same-sex marriage, something that won’t sit well with evangelical Republican-base voters skeptical of Trump’s new-found conservatism.
Flynn told CNN that he found Trump to be an impressive candidate who asked good questions and cared about the right issues.
Trump also proposed overhauling the current visa programs “to ensure American Veterans are in the front, not back, of the line”.

Flynn told ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday that “women have to be able to choose” – before telling Fox News on Monday morning that he considers himself a “pro-life Democrat”. And he ran for secretary of state of Rhode Island, and I love talking about my mother, because she’s the most courageous person I’ve ever met in my life.
