Who Wants The Job?

It is time for Republicans not to be on the defensive when it comes to such an important decision.

When Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) walked into a Capitol Hill conference room to meet with his Republican colleagues last Thursday, he seemed a certain bet to be elected the next speaker of the House of Representatives.

However, I contend that he should, because he would make a great Speaker of the House. Lynn Westmoreland, another more conservative member of the GOP, said that he was pursuing the job shortly after McCarthy dropped out.Paul Ryan, who everybody says they’d stand aside for, doesn’t want the job.

The Wisconsin Republican, who ran as Vice-President in 2012, is said to be reconsidering the race for House Speaker after initially refusing to commit, McCaul said.

It’s the Paul Ryan paralysis syndrome and it’s gripping any House Republican who wants to be speaker.

As House speaker, he would offer members a voice in what legislation is discussed on the floor and who controls committees. They view any congressional achievement – even one as essential as funding the government – as an unacceptable concession to President Barack Obama and Democrats in Congress.

They also want GOP leaders to stop punishing them for rebellious votes. “It was jobs and the economy by a more than 60 percent margin”.

Instead, corrections will be made in a blog post or in an article.
