New Jersey governor Chris Christie and former business executive Carly Fiorina are ending their campaigns for the 2016 Republican nomination, narrowing the field of rivals facing businessman Donald Trump for the right to compete in the November 8th presidential election.

Trump said on “CBS This Morning” that he and Christie spoke after the New Hampshire primary Tuesday, in which Trump won a big victory. Seeking endorsements from any rivals that quit the race, Trump said of Christie, “He’s a friend of mine. I’m surprised he didn’t do better”.

Could be interpreted as Christie speaking to the New Hampshire voters, or the people of New Jersey speaking to Christie.

Brielle Applebaum of the Conservative Leadership Project says a Wednesday forum on legal and constitutional issues set for Charleston has been cancelled.

The Republican nomination race now bends southward, with a primary in SC on February 20 the next test. Trump has held a double-digit lead there for months.

-Christie told supporters: “We’re going to take a deep breath and see what the final results are tonight”.

Rubio said that when he called Trump to congratulate him on the New Hampshire win, he joked, “Why are you so greedy, did it have to be a landslide?”
