On Sunday night, the Emmys 2016 award show will go live from Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California.

LOS ANGELES “Veep” star Julia Louis-Dreyfus won her fifth straight Emmy on Sunday for her role in the satirical White House comedy on a night when politics played large in the midst of an extraordinary 2016 US election campaign. Jimmy Kimmel says most of TV’s biggest stars will be spared from his caustic wit at the Emmy Awards on Sunday.
“But if we do win, unlike the other nominees, I’m going to give my Emmy to the poor, the people who don’t have Emmys”.
LOS ANGELES (AP) – What do computer hackers, the divisive USA presidential campaign and racial tensions have to do with the Emmys?
As predictable as Emmy voters can be, they always manage to serve up a stunner or two at their annual awards bash. The ceremony airs 8 p.m. EDT Sunday on ABC with host Jimmy Kimmel.
“If your show doesn’t have a dragon or a white Bronco in it, go home right now”, host Jimmy Kimmel joked at the start of the three-hour broadcast, a reference to “Thrones” and the infamous vehicle Simpson was in when he went on a wild ride through Los Angeles before his arrest.
Kate McKinnon has won the Emmy for best supporting actress on a comedy series for her role on “Saturday Night Live”.
“I can’t walk, but thanks”, the actress, nominated for her role in a comedy series for Amazon’s “Transparent”, said as she responded to shouts and cheers from fans in the red-carpet bleachers.
It’s “changing the landscape of television”.
If the stars looked especially hot this year, the mercury was involved: Temperatures were in the 90s.
Biting political satire “Veep” is seeking its second consecutive best comedy series award, and bleak political drama “House of Cards” is looking for its first major win, as are its stars, Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright.
The Emmy nominations of 2016 have a plethora of fantastic comedy series’ to choose from.
In this image released by HBO, Tony Hale, left, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus appear in a scene from the comedy series, “Veep”.
“Game of Thrones” won best drama for the second year in a row on Sunday, and became prime-time television’s most-honoured show ever.
But they’ve got serious competition, including on the drama side from freshman “Mr. Robot” and an invigorated “The Americans”, and from sophomore sitcom “black-ish” just some of potential beneficiaries of revisions in Emmy voting.
The Emmys proved more adroit than the Oscars at recognizing and honoring diversity in Hollywood’s top ranks, with trophies going to minority actors and behind-the-scenes artists including writers Aziz Ansari and Alan Yang of “Master of None”.
Maggie Smith was honored as best supporting actress in a drama series for the final season of “Downton Abbey”.
This year, the academy revised how votes are cast and counted, switching from a ranking and points system to letting voters simply check off their top choice. The victor who fails miserably to act surprised (even when they were the clear favorite to win) is always my favorite reaction.

In another revision, this one implemented a year ago, voting was expanded from blue-ribbon panels to – depending on the award – giving substantially more or all of the academy’s 20,000-plus members the chance to vote for finalists.
