Who will Trump nominate to Supreme Court? Time, how to watch, livestream

WASHINGTON ― The fate of President Donald Trump’s upcoming Supreme Court nominee once again rests with vulnerable Senate Democrats up for re-election this fall.

“President Trump has made an outstanding decision in nominating Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court”, Bush said. Bob Casey (D-Pa.), who opposes abortion, announced on Monday he can not support a process that involved Trump’s picking from a list of 25 candidates selected by conservatives and big business. Senate Republicans hold only a 51-49 majority, leaving them hardly any margin if Democrats hold the line. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said over the weekend on “Fox News Sunday”.

Kyl, a former member of Republican leadership, served on the Senate Judiciary Committee before retiring in 2013. With Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) on sick leave, a single “no” vote by a Republican could ruin the confirmation.

Trump has called the Supreme Court pick “the most important decision a US president can make”, and advocates say that nominating a conservative justice to replace Kennedy could overturn long-standing decisions such as Roe v. Wade.

News reported on Sunday night that Kavanaugh and Hardiman are getting the most attention in the decision-making process.

McConnell has said he hopes to have a justice in place by the opening of the court’s new term in October, and it’s possible that a voluminous paper trail could add more time to the review – or at least give Democrats a little more traction on efforts to delay the proceedings. “I don’t think my role is to rubber-stamp for the president, but it’s also not an automatic knee-jerk no, either”.

“Bob Casey is so blinded by partisanship that he is opposing a nominee for the Supreme Court before the pick is announced”.

Both endorsed Kavanaugh’s candidacy for the high court in a letter addressed to Congressional leaders including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. His staunch conservatism ensures stiff Democratic resistance. Additionally, the nominee has not publicly said whether he’d favor overturning Roe v. Wade.

Democrats’ hopes are pinned on two Republican senators, Susan Collins of ME and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, who both oppose any nominee who threatens the landmark Roe v. Wade ruling recognizing abortion as a constitutional right.

“There’s not gonna be a President Donald Trump”, actor George Clooney said. He did, however, dissent recently on an appeals court decision that allowed a pregnant teenaged illegal immigrant who was in federal custody to have an abortion. “Justices who sit on the most important court in the world should not be selected by corporate interests and extreme right organizations”.

“What I want is somebody who is well versed in the law, who’s fair, who’s a smart lawyer and a good judge”.

“One Republican senator can decide the fate of any Supreme Court nominee”, said Sen. And he worked on the vote recount in the state of Florida that made George W. Bush president. Many, including Leo, believe that it was a major contributing factor to his victory in 2016.

Kavanaugh’s biography includes his times in two Boston Marathons, his coaching experience for his two daughters’ basketball teams and his regular participation in services at a Catholic church in Washington. But she famously clashed with Senator Dianne Feinstein during her confirmation hearing previous year to be an appeals court judge.

Conservative and libertarian-leaning activists raised concerns about Kavanaugh.

Barrett has a thin resume as a judge but has amassed a formidable and respected body of scholarly work.

After earning undergraduate and law degrees at Yale, he was a Kennedy law clerk in the early 1990s before joining independent counsel Kenneth Starr’s team, where Kavanaugh co-wrote the report that served as the basis for President Bill Clinton’s impeachment. She later became a prosecutor and a judge in Maryland.

Trump is hoping to replicate his successful nomination of Justice Gorsuch past year. “It’s – well, let’s just say it’s the four people. They’re excellent. Every one you can’t go wrong”.

If as expected Trump nominates someone firmly to the right conservatives could dominate the court for years
