But, word among Taylor’s circle is that Swift was shocked when the Grammy nominations list came out – and her pal Kendrick Lamar left her in the dust.

Stapleton additionally earned nods within the country classes of best country album, best county solo performance & best country song for the title track. Despite success with tours, albums and singles, Luke Bryan was also snubbed and has yet to earn aGrammy nomination.

Locally, Melbourne singer Courtney Barnett, 28, is up for Best New Artist while Perth group Tame Impala are in the Best Alternative Music Album category.

Is James Bay this year’s hottest newcomer?

Stapleton’s main competition is Little Big Town, also down for Best Country Song for “Girl Crush” and Country Album for “Pain Killer”.

His song “Really Love” was nominated for Record of the Year, although he was passed over for Album of the Year. Fellow triple nominee Marc Ronson’s Uptown Funk, featuring Bruno Mars, and Ed Sheeran’s Thinking Out Loud round out the record nominees. But Swift was ahead in the four most-watched categories, with nominations in all of them except Best New Artist. But in recent years the Grammy for album of the year has gone to admired but hardly blockbuster alt-rock records by the likes of Beck, Mumford & Sons and Arcade Fire. Just ask J. Cole, who held up a “F*ck the Grammys” sign while on tour in 2013 after his sophomore album, Born Sinner, didn’t receive a Best Rap Album nomination.

The Voice’s Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and Pharrell Williams have all been nominated for one or two Grammy Awards as well as first-season American Idol victor Kelly Clarkson, fourth-season Idol victor Carrie Underwood, Season 21 Dancing with the Stars contestant Tamar Braxton, current Idol judge Keith Urban, and Kanye West, the husband of Keeping Up with the Kardashians star Kim Kardashian.

The Recording Academy revealed its nominations Monday morning for the 2016 Grammy Awards, and everything is coming up Kendrick.

Other Canadian nominees include Justin Bieber for best dance recording for “Where Are U Now;” Dan Snaith of Dundas, Ont., who performs as Caribou, for best dance/electronic album for “Our Love;” Cuban-Canadian singer-songwriter Alex Cuba for best Latin pop album for “Healer”.
